Hudson Valley Guest House and Writer’s Studio

Beautifully-set on a secluded plot of land, this project consists of two high-performance companion structures — a guest house and writer’s studio — and explores the relationships among material, craft, and place.

Drawing from both Craftsman traditions and Asian influences, the project balances restraint with moments of intensity. Soft, tactile materials are punctuated by nature-driven pattern and color. Interior finishes like fumed oak and cast bronze — natural, tactile, and meant to patina over time — are used throughout. Fallen trees from the property were transformed into furniture, literally grounding the interiors in their surroundings and reinforcing the essential  link between architecture and landscape.
